As well as accredited analyses for a range of matrices from food producing animals. Fera also provide bespoke method development solutions and un-accredited analyses for other analyte/matrix combinations. Processed meat and samples high in fat may present an analytical challenge and require additional method development prior to analysis and as such cannot always be analysed using accredited methodology. Please get in touch using the contact details on this page to confirm testing requirements and accreditation status if unsure.

Fera’s ISO 17025 accreditation status can be found at https://www.ukas.com/download-schedule/1642/Testing/

Fera's food safety experts can detect and quantify residues from avermectins in a range of food products, including: fish, red meat, and milk, and corned beef, among others.

Avermectins are a group of veterinary medicines which are effective against a range of worms and parasites. These parasites are known to cause significant livestock production losses throughout the world. Within this screen, Fera’s scientists check for the presence of the following avermectin residues: Abamectin, Doramectin, Emamectin, Eprinomectin, Ivermectin, and Moxidectin.

Regulatory limits strictly control the use of avermectins, with maximum residue limits (MRLs) being defined in Commission Regulation (EU) 37/2010 (or as amended), by individual avermectins, for a range of food producing species. MRLs have been set in muscle, kidney, liver, fat / skin and milk. Fera’s Veterinary residues scientists can provide the evidence required by regulators to verify that the levels of avermectins within your food products are compliant.

Analyses of your samples are undertaken using a method based on liquid chromatography–fluorescence spectroscopy (HPLC-FL) to accurately quantify any avermectin residues present. The method has been validated in accordance with the principles set out in Commission Decision 2002/657/EC, for most analyte/matrix combinations. Analysis is accredited to ISO17025 by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). Fera screening procedures for food samples help protect your brand from costly product recalls, whether you are a supplier, importer, or wholesaler.

Confirmatory Analysis

Confirmatory analysis, where required, will be at the same value as the analysis performed. Fera will contact you beforehand to establish if the additional analysis is required. The delivery time for confirmatory results will be 10 working days from your instruction to proceed.
