Residues of inorganic bromide are derived from the use of methyl bromide as a post-harvest fumigant for stored products or as a soil sterilant. As a result of potentially harmful effects of inorganic bromide exposure, there are strict regulatory limits in place for a range of foodstuffs. Residues are controlled through a system of statutory Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) which are the maximum safe amount of residue likely to remain in food products when a pesticide has been used correctly by producers adhering to good agricultural practice (GAP). Compliance provides the evidence required to assure regulators and consumers that these pesticides have been correctly used and that residues are within the regulatory limits being within safe levels in foodstuffs thus minimising consumer exposure.
Our fast turnaround times (1-10 working days) ensures that results are readily available allowing customers to quickly address any potential issues with their produce.
Our analysis requires only 100g sample of your foodstuffs to ensure accurate results are obtained, but a larger sample (typically 1kg) may be required to comply with some EU and Codex regulations.
Fera employ innovative testing methods, twinned with industry leading analytical technologies to provide unequivocal results. Since inorganic bromide can also be naturally present in some foodstuffs, Fera experts are best placed to interpret the significance of inorganic bromide residues within a range of different food samples
